How important are federal funds to your state’s budget?
Federal funds help pay for a lot of things: Public schools, road work, park construction and maintenance, safe drinking water, the fish and wildlife service, food assistance programs, housing developments, disaster preparedness and much more. The combination of the many different needs for it, and the sheer amount of the funding means it will be very hard for any state to make up for big cuts in federal funds.
Almost half of all states rely on the federal government for more than 40% of their revenues. How much did your state receive?

Public Schools
Public schools are paid for with a mix of federal and state funds. Some states take in less in taxes than others, so their school systems depend more on federal funds to stay open.

Healthcare
More than 40% of all births in our country are covered by medicaid. In some states, the percentage is much higher.
